I love sick days.

Its not just the lounging around the house, or the daytime television. While those are certainly wonderful things in their own right, what I really look forward to on my sick days is working from home. (No, really, I do).

While Management By Wandering Around is no longer an option for the bed-bound, the wonders of the Information Age enable a far more appealing possibility known as Management By Email.

Email, combined with the common cold, envoke me with miraculous super-powers beyond the reach of any manager confined to the office. Simply put: as a home-emailer, the standard rules of email no longer apply to me.

From the comfort of my home I can fire off a meeting postponement here, and a poorly-informed decision there, and even a proclamation or two (should the mood take me).

From the sanctuary of my home, I can ignore any email which I can't be bothered dealing with.

I can delegate my entire workload to remainder of the team without a whimper of resistance.

I can embolden full sentences (or even whole paragraphs) without causing offense!

No one dares send me an action point while I suffer here in my weakened state!

Who could legitimately take offense to my abrupt declarations and random font selections of a man who is sick?

The ill are beyond rebuke! They're no longer of sound mind!

If only I could find some way to be sick in the office with the same blessings.
